Day 1 of Season 27 was a memorable day for Die Tour Phantome. One of the early heroes of our team turned 40 years old. Happy birthday, Mr. Pim Schenkhuizen!
And the most remarkable part: despite his advanced age, Schenkhuizen still has the desire to be part of the peloton. Ok, his team Antioquia hasn't signed him up for a race in ages, but that didn't stop Schenkhuizen from renewing his racing licence for another season.
Pim Schenkhuizen was the first rider in Die Tour Phantome history to wear a leader's jersey in a tour. He won the King's Stage in Monte Rosa Tour #2, in which he eventually finished 6th. Only the great Falur Sigfinnursson managed to repeat that feat after Schenkhuizen.
The Die Tour Phantome fanbase has been pushing management for a return of Pim to the team, but so far without any luck. But you never know what the future brings...
